Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre Review

Disconnection. Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre is full of it. Terrible title by the way.

The characters, their humour, the action, and the story. All suffer from disconnect, and only some of it is intentional.

A perfectly fine film which goes on too long and didn’t know how to end. That in itself isn’t unusual. What is a bit odd is the tone.

Statham is wandering around an action film, looking very handy indeed. He’s funny; not SPY funny, but some good lines. Hugh Grant is…well he seems very similar to his character in The Gentleman. I do not consider this a bad thing in isolation, though in the broader film it seems as though he was asked to “just do that again” rather than adjust to the actual character in this story.

If you fancy a bit of Guy Ritchie, then there are better options. Ruse de Guerre isn’t quite the romp or caper you hope it will be. Individually entertaining parts don’t make for a convincing whole.
