This Wolfenstein is an odd creature, flying in the face of DLC as a lower priced, disc based prequel to The New Order.
Old Blood indeed. Is it worth our time?
That can be answered with the following questions.
- Do you like shooting guns?
- If so, would you like to shoot two guns at the same time?
- Finally, would you like to use two guns to shoot Nazis in the face?
If you’ve answered yes to those then The Old Blood will be right up your street!
The New Order was an old-school shooter with a surprisingly thoughtful story. The story here is much leaner, quickly settling into a rhythm of action and stealth. Nervously peaking out from behind a wall to see if the huge mech you’re trying to sneak past is facing the other way mixes well with sections of all out blasting as waves of Nazi Zombies – yes Nazi Zombies – advance on you.
It is a bit annoying that you have to keep hitting a button to pick things up – an old school touch I could live without – but overall The Old Blood is a well designed and put together game. It wins no awards for originality but it’s not above having a laugh at itself and does exactly what it needs to; providing us with a good 7 hours of Nazi-blasting fun. That is also manages to mix in segments resembling the original games of the series is a nice touch too, and provides a nice change of environment.
You answered yes to the first three questions didn’t you? Well then, I’ve got one more.
Do you want to play a good game?
Yes? Play this game. With it’s low release price there really is no reason not to.
