From my own experience of comics I figure that very few series get beyond issue #50. So for TMNT to get to #75 is a big deal. It’s already the longest TMNT series, and now it has a double-length issue!
TMNT #75 seeming to split pretty evenly into distinct halves. Both are good too, but other than ending an arc on a nice number I’m not sure going big really adds anything else.
On my first read through I didn’t notice the changes in style between the three artists. Between two titles and various mini-series I’ve become used to quickly accepting each artist’s style and getting on with things. It’s all good stuff, and the changes don’t get in the way of the story!
Thing is, it’s the story that doesn’t quite hit the heights I was expecting. It surprised me for sure, and I couldn’t help but smile as events unfolded, but the bar has been set pretty high for this series and I was left a little deflated. That could be due to the decisions some characters made. I understand them, but they left me very disappointed in those characters. There are positives to be found inside my negatives!
TMNT #75 is a big deal, and it wraps up a story line that has been rumbling on for a long time. It didn’t go how I expected to, which is great, but it also didn’t get me particularly amped for what’s coming. The TMNT universe is ever-growing. As long it keeps in mind who is the focus everything should be OK.
