Between the rom-coms and more troubled comic book films Ryan Reynolds gets a tough time. The Voices adds to the often forgotten Buried as proof that there is far more to him than that.
Reynolds does well to imbue Jerry with charm even at his lowest moments in a multifaceted role. You want things to work out for him. With his talking cat and dog providing both questionable moral guidance and dark humour this film was funnier and more gruesome than I expected. A pleasant surprise and good warm-up for next year’s Deadpool. I wish he’d branch out more often.
