The Bubble Review

The main thing I took away from Judd Apatow’s latest comedy is that it’s too late!

If this had hit whilst we were all in lockdown, like Tiger King did, perhaps it could have landed differently.

As it is, a load of people living through something similar to what the world did last year feels somehow stale. We’ve lived it! Do we need to see it again?

The cast is great. For instance, I could watch Pedro read a phonebook and find it entertaining; he’s an absolute dreamboat isn’t he? There are no problems with the people involved, and I think they’re all enjoying it. The problem is they aren’t working with a good enough script. And the editing is shaky. Perhaps it suits the ‘loose’ nature of the film, but I found it too long.

The Bubble is clearly aiming to be chaotic and entertaining. There are a few moments where it manages to nail that. Problem is that those moments are rare.

Basing a film around a current situation could work. But The Bubble feels both too soon and too late.
