In amongst the reboots and superheroes The BFG is a nice change of pace. It’s an entertaining and amusing, if slight story that stands out due to one aspect in particular.
Mark Rylance is the BFG. I can’t imagine anyone else taking on the role now. His gentle nature and warm, friendly features lend themselves perfectly to the character. Basically, the film would not work without him. I’m not sure we’ve seen this good a mo-cap performance since Serkis started blowing our minds.
Full of wondrous dialogue this is, to use a word I like a bit too much, lovely.
