Strange World Review

I do not understand what happened to this film.

Was it a box office bomb? How could it be when it wasn’t released in many countries, and went pretty much straight to Disney+?

The marketing was – as far as I’m concerned at least – nonexistent. This despite the cast containing a host of well known actors. It feels as though it was just dropped and left to fend for itself.

Which is a shame, as though Strange World doesn’t hit the same level as any of Director Don Hall’s previous Disney outings, it’s still good fun. The generational drama of the Clade family will ring a bell with many. The struggle between what parents think their children should be and what they actually are. There’s also some amazing, and pleasantly understated, representation throughout.

Taking it’s inspiration from classic serials and Journey to the Center of the Earth, I wonder if Strange World will find it’s audience eventually. Good pacing, some colourful creatures, and decent performances create a perfectly entertaining that kept my family engaged. I think time will be kinder to it than Disney themselves have been.
