Pig Review

I had no expectations going into this. Hadn’t even seen a trailer.

All I’d seen was Tweets hyping it up. My ignorance, and subsequent willingness to take a punt, was thoroughly rewarded.

Pig is a thoughtful film, a powerful film, containing perhaps Nicolas Cage’s best performance in years. He’s been in what I classified as a ‘weird spot’ for years now, doing things that just looked silly or cheap.

But through this film, I realise that perhaps it’s not for lack of being wanted, but that he’s gone out there on purpose. Cage’s character holds a reputation, strong enough to have left an impact on everyone in the town he used to live in.

He himself is out there in the wilderness, so perhaps he’s closer to his character than we first think.

The small cast all raise themselves to the bar set by Cage.

Does much happen? No? Is it what you think it might be? Unlikely. But it’s well worth your time.
