I got up to stuff as a younger man that now, with (some) maturity and a lot more responsibility, I wouldn’t even consider. Most of the time I see it as natural progression. Sometimes though, it just makes me feel old.
Nobody says that getting older and wanting certain things doesn’t have to take away your edge. And I appreciate that.
Ultimately it’s all a question of balance, and we’re shown what can happen when you go too far either way.
I know this will upset/shock some of you, but this might be the first thing I’ve watched that has Bob Odenkirk in it. Suffice to say, if he’s half as good as Saul, then you’ve all been talking a lot of sense! How he conveys someone beat down by existence, and how he opens himself back up to something he thought he’d locked away, is very believable in what is still essentially a wish-fulfillment tale.
You’re watching this film for the action though, and it delivers! It’s great to some of my favourite action performers (looking at you Daniel Bernhardt), joining in. In a Hollywood sense the fighting is grounded, and it’s really well put-together. The simmering rage of Odenkirk’s character shines through; those bottled up feelings need to come out!
It really zipped along. Social Media has done my attention span no good at all, but I didn’t check my phone once!
This is an entertaining, well put together, and focused film.
I just hope Bob doesn’t do a Neeson. Nobody is an entertainingly focused film. It has a purpose and it performs it well.
