This Western remake is all show. The main problem is that nothing is earned, with a lack of backstory undermining any feelings the story is trying to elicit. Good people. Bad people. Bad looking people that are good really. Eh.
All that aside, it looks fantastic. The Seven themselves look badass, the vistas are beautiful, and the action is well staged.
Denzel is Denzel. D’Onofrio is quietly intimidating whilst Byung-hun mixes an intimidating stare with humour. Massive kudos for such a racially diverse cast. Surprisingly, I struggled with Chris Pratt. He’s got lovable rogue nailed but it would be nice to see more from him.
