Late Night With The Devil Review

It’s 1977, and late-night talk show host Jack Delroy is struggling. Having suffered a huge personal loss, he’s now watching his career circle the drain. Perennially second to Johnny Carson, Delroy takes a risk on his yearly Halloween Special.

The big question is…what is he willing to sacrifice for success?

How I used my phone is a good indicator of how this film affected me. A couple of times I used it as a clear attempt at distracting myself from things I found uncomfortable. Later I completely ignored it as I was engrossed and wanted to know what was coming next. Phone’s may have ruined my attention span, but it was at least a good indicator here.

The seventies vibe is pitch perfect, whilst Dastmalchian (who will always be Thomas Schiff to me) again provides a strong performance. At ninety-three minutes long it doesn’t outstay it’s welcome, setting everything up with a prologue of sorts voiced by Michael Ironside. Even within a shorter run time it doesn’t rush. Perfectly paced, the tension and story threads that build up are given enough to leave you thinking about it all afterward.

As a horror film this has pretty much everything you might want. It’s great. Get yourself a free trial of Shudder through Prime and give it a go. And set an alarm if you want to cancel it in time!
