I was under the impression that Hugo was a children’s film. But my wife and I agreed that it was too slow and too long to really be that. Still, it was very interesting.
The film starts terribly slowly but picks up and has a very satisfying pay-off for all the main characters. The cast is filled with many top notch actors, even in the smaller roles, and has a very British flavour to it. They all do a good job bringing the film to life.
Though I didn’t see it in 3D, it’s still a very good looking film, with a lovely aesthetic. Not the sort of film I expected from Scorsese after films such as Taxi Driver and The Departed, but if he could make more oddities like this, I’d welcome it.
