Hugo Review

I was under the impression that Hugo was a children’s film. After sitting down with the missus to watch it, we both agreed that it was too slow and too long to really be that. Still, it was very interesting.

The film starts terribly slowly (I was asked if I was falling asleep ten minutes in), but picks up and has a very satisfying pay-off for all the main characters. The cast is filled with many top notch actors, even in the smaller roles, and has a very British flavour to it. They all do a good job bringing the film to life.

Though I didn’t see it in 3D, it’s still a very good looking film, with a lovely aesthetic. Not the sort of film I expected from Scorsese after films such as Taxi Driver and The Departed, but if he could make more oddities like this, I’d welcome it.
