Don’t Look Up Review

I caved.

There’s been so much discourse around Adam Mckay’s new Netflix release that I worked it into a New Year filled mainly with easy going rewatches. I had to understand what people were going on about. Hm.

The monumental levels of idiocy, selfishness, and disbelief on display in Don’t Look Up feel all too close after two years of COVID. I can see the jokes. I can see the decent performances. It’s clear what was being aimed for.

A dark comedy. Satire. But it wasn’t very funny.

I found this film so depressing! For everything it does well, I couldn’t stop feeling sad about it all. I’ve seen these behaviours and I fully expect them to rear up should we ever be unfortunate enough to arrive at such a situation.

I’m in the odd position of being aware what a film wanted to convey, knowing it did, but not liking it for it. Perhaps it was too heavy-handed. I didn’t need to be hit over the head with humanity’s stupidity so repeatedly.
