American Reunion Review

The main gang in the American Pie films are a few years older than me. The first time I watched American Reunion I was touched by how it looked at the characters and what had changed for them, as I’d seen a lot of those changes in my own life. Recently seeing it again those feelings have only grown stronger, making this film not only a brilliant conclusion to the series, but a surprisingly good balancing act between the gross out moments we expect and a touching message.

Reunion probably has the least amount of laughs of any of the Pie films, but it doesn’t matter. I’ve always felt that the films had a certain ‘coming of age’ charm, and this film has it in spades.

In many ways I can relate to the shenanigans these guys get up to, which along with getting to see pretty much everyone from the series, makes it an enjoyable way to switch off and spend an evening. All of the cast are on form, and it’s cool to see that though lots of things might have changed, some things won’t. Just like in real life.

Vulgar? Juvenile? Cash in? Say what you like, But I enjoyed the previous Pie films, and feel that American Reunion more than lives up to expectations.
