“Just gimme a minute”.
We’ve all been there haven’t we. One of those days where things just do…not…stop. People and problems are relentless. It’s a lonely place.
Boiling Point may be set in a kitchen, and I’m no chef, but it rings true and is wholly relatable.
It’s also a damn tricky watch. The awkwardness. The constant pressure and problems. The second in command who really runs the show. It just exudes emotion, especially as the bombs it plants early on begin to go off. The tension is palpable!
Initially I wanted to compare it to Locke, but realised that would be reductive. Being short in length and having a story of things unravelling doesn’t make them the same. Boiling Point’s roving camera, moving between multiple characters in the same space, is essential in building up the picture of the drama unfolding.
What it shows to perfection is that everyone working in the same place has their own shit going on. And that Stephen Graham is immense.
I love a good ninety minute film and this is right up there.
