Dinosaurs in a western setting? Yes please! Can it escape the shadow of Inside Out though?
The Good Dinosaur gets off to a good start, managing to juggle dazzlingly realistic environments with much simpler character designs. It gives the film an interesting aesthetic.
This isn’t a PIXAR classic though. Despite it’s emotional heft (oh my the FEELS), the story is too simplistic and it’s obvious how it will pan out.
PIXAR are known for creating stories that satisfy both children and adults. This story doesn’t reach those levels.
Definitely a good dinosaur, but falls short of being a great one.
