Spotlight shows us something truly horrific that is happening all around us; something that the majority won’t feel they can do much about. A plague coursing through an institution that makes you wonder exactly things can get so fucked up.
Not a lot actually happens; we see a lot of pensive looks, searching through documents, and talks about motions. The most energetic thing about it all is Ruffalo’s always running journalist.
That’s OK though. Spotlight always keeps you guessing and interested, and handles the subject matter deftly. It may well leave you horrified, but it’s a film well worth watching.
