A Bit of Pew Pew #1

The move to the new site has given me the space to delve into more things I think are Super Duper. X-Wing Miniatures is one of those things.

My Brother picked up a core set (2 TIE Fighters and 1 X-Wing) back in May 2014. We soon began purchasing expansions as he branched off into Rebels and I took on the Imperials. It worked out nicely, as we soon had two core sets and just took what we needed from both.

Fast forward to the present and we’ve both spent a lot more money! I’ve also branched out into the Scum & Villainy faction as it allows me to fly Y-Wings and Hawks; two formerly Rebel ships that I was gutted I couldn’t use.

I’ve had an interesting relationship with the game. I adore flying little plastic ships around a board and shouting ‘pew pew’. But I’ve also had to take a couple of breaks from it when nothing has gone my way and I’ve become jaded by defeat after defeat. The most important thing about playing is to enjoy it, and to give it a rest when you’re not. Running three TIE Defenders with Ion Cannons at tournaments probably doesn’t help me, but I play with the ships I think are cool!

A couple of weeks ago FFG announced the Imperial Veterans expansion pack. It contains massive changes for the Defender with two new titles that make it the space superiority fighter it always should have been. With this in mind I have to get practising for the tournaments that are coming up!

This is the first time I’ve written a ‘bat-rep’ for the site; I might figure out a better way to present it in the future. Just work your way through the photos!

TIE Defender – Delta Squadron – Stealth Device, TIE/x7 x 2

TIE Advanced – Darth Vader – Predator, Advanced Targeting Computer, TIE/x1, Engine Upgrade

99 points

T-70 X-Wing – Poe Dameron – Autothrusters, Push the Limit, R5-P9

Y-Wing – Horton Slam – Twin Laser Turret, Engine Upgrade

Y-Wing – Gold Squadron Pilot – Twin Laser Turret, R3-A2, BTL-A4 title

100 points

So, my second game with the upgraded Defenders and a second win. I am loving the x7 title. As long as I make a decent move forwards I can have an evade and a focus token! Makes hitting my Deltas a much trickier prospect. We both made some pretty stupid mistakes, but overall it was an entertaining match that swung several times.

Hopefully you enjoyed this little report. I’ll be adding more in the future. Tabletop games have become a big part of my life now, and it’s something I’d like to share.

If there is anything in particular you’d like to see covered let me know in the comments!

Fly casual.
